WHAT IS AN APPRENTICESHIP?
Pipe trades apprenticeships provide training to develop highly skilled workers who will meet the rigorous demands of the pipe trades industry. Apprentices EARN WHILE THEY LEARN the skills that are required to succeed through ON THE JOB TRAINING and related CLASSROOM TECHNICAL TRAINING.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF AN APPRENTICESHIP?
Apprentices earn a paycheck while training on the job and the rate of pay increases regularly through the apprenticeship as they learn new skills.
Apprenticeship training emphasizes high standards of skill and instructional quality. Apprenticeship is widely recognized as the best method of training skilled craft workers.
HOW DOES AN APPRENTICESHIP WORK?
Pipe Trades Apprentices learn their trade through both on the job, hands on training and classroom technical training.
Pipe trades practical skills are learned while working under the supervision of a journey-level trades person. Technical aspects of the pipe trades are learned while attending evening classroom training.
After completion of an apprenticeship program, apprentices are advanced to journey-level status with the additional benefit of nationwide mobility at journey level scale.

A pipe trades apprentice should be motivated to learn, have mechanical abilities, be able to travel for work , and be willing to work in all weather conditions. WHAT DOES A PIPE TRADES WORKER DO?
Pipe trades workers are a highly skilled crafts-persons that build, install, maintain, and repair piping/mechanical systems in facilities, including residential homes, commercial buildings, institutional buildings, and industrial plants.
Pipe trades workers include Plumbers, Pipefitters, Pipe Welders, and Heating/Ventilation Technicians.
Requirements
Apprenticeship Applicants must:
- be 18 years of age or older
- have a high school diploma or equivalent (GED)
The following must be submitted with applications for apprenticeship:
- a copy of your birth certificate
- a copy of your high school or GED transcript
- a copy of a valid photo ID
- your work history
Helpful information you should include with your application:
- a list of relevant high school classes such as mechanical drawing, advanced math, shop class, etc.
- a description of related post high school training such as college or university classes, vocational or trade school courses.
