Heavy Equipment Maintenance Technician Apprentice

Heavy Equipment Maintenance Technician Apprentice. 4-year program. Four Regions are available to train close to where you live (1. North East, 2. North West, 3. Central/ South East, 4. South West).


Our program began in 1965 to meet the demand for heavy equipment operators in the construction industry. If accepted, you will receive intensive training in many areas that will assist you on your journey. The Work: Our apprentices are employed through our union hiring hall and are dispatched to work by the union referral system. Apprentices work with our signatory contractors, performing equipment operation duties and performing some maintenance as required.

Cost:
The training is free for our selected members. The Ohio Operating Engineers Training Program is an industry-sponsored and funded registered Apprenticeship Training Program. Our sponsors are the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 18, the Ohio Contractors Association, and the Ohio Building Chapter of the Associated General Contractors.

Requirements

To apply for the IUOE Local 18 (Ohio Operating Engineers) apprenticeship, you must be at least 18 years old, possess a valid driver’s license, and maintain dependable transportation. Applicants must also pass a DOT physical exam, a background check (no felonies in the last 7 years), and a drug screen

The Requirements: To become a journey level heavy equipment maintenance technician, a person must complete four (4) years of apprenticeship training. There is a minimum of 1,280 onsite training hours required, which will include classroom, shop, and other related training. There are written and performance tests that will be included.
