
Electrical Training Institute of San Diego & Imperial Counties - IBEW 569
The Electrical Training Institute (ETI) of San Diego and Imperial Counties is the recruitment and training arm of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 569 and the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) of San Diego.
Most of our apprentices work, train, and live in San Diego; we also have a training facility and members who live, work, and train in Imperial County. The apprenticeship combines supervised on-the-job and classroom training, preparing the apprentice for a career as a skilled electrician. Apprentices gain this experience working with one of our over 300 signatory electrical contractors from NECA.
Apprentices will attend class in the evening twice a week. Apprentices are paid for their work. Not only are the courses and training tuition free, but you earn a paycheck while being trained in a valuable skill set. Classes are accredited through Palomar College and are approved for VA benefits.

Electrical Apprentice - Inside Wireman
This entry level 5-year-apprenticeship trains participants on-the-job and in the classroom about the electrical construction trade. Apprentices are paid for their work and receive tuition-free college credit. Graduates of the apprenticeship become California State Licensed Journeymen Inside Wiremen.
The program requires that each apprentice receive a minimum of 8000 hours of on-the-job training in the electrical construction industry with the supervision of a journeyman Wireman electrician. While in the training program, apprentices are required to attend 1,020 hours of classroom related instruction. During the first three years of apprenticeship, apprentices go through our compressed and vigorous curriculum two nights a week – one night for lecture and one night for hands-on applications of their skills. Apprentices are required to pass competency assessments to successfully complete their classes. During the last two years of apprenticeship, apprentices take journey level courses such as: Electrical Vehicle Infrastructure Training Program (EVITP), California Advanced Lighting Control Training Program (CALCTP), Energy Storage and Microgrid Training Certification (ESAMTAC), Project Supervision, Advanced Instrumentation and Solar Energy.
This program is approved by the Division of Apprenticeship Standards for the State of California and the Department of Labor Office of Apprenticeship.
***Apprentice wages rates increase as they progress through the program.Inside wiremen apprentices see a step up in wages every 6 months if they complete the requirements for a rerate after each semester.
Requirements
Applicants must complete an application form, accurately responding to all questions and items including statements indicating that they are: Physically and mentally able to safely perform or learn to safely perform essential functions of the job either with or without reasonable accommodations.Able to get to and from work at job sites anywhere within the geographical area that this apprenticeship program covers. Able and willing to attend all related classroom training as required to complete their apprenticeship.Able to climb and work from ladders, scaffolds, poles, and towers of various heights.Able to crawl and work in confined spaces such as attics, manholes, and crawlspaces.Able to read, hear, and understand instructions and warnings.Have previous military work experience in the identified MOS as stipulated.Provide reliable documentation and adequate verification (which shall be recorded and securely filed in the applicant’s file) to substantiate previous military training and experience, in order to qualify for interview under this provision.
