Electrical Apprentice

The NECA-IBEW 288 Electrical JATC offers a five-year apprenticeship program, which combines both on the job and related classroom training. If accepted into the apprenticeship program, apprentices must complete a minimum of 8,000 on the job training hours before becoming a Journeyman Wireman. Apprentices are also required to complete 5 years of school.

Requirements

 



  • High School Graduate or Have a certificate of High School Equivalency or GED or have a two-year Associate Degree or higher

  • Successfully completed one full year of High School Algebra with a passing grade or; one full semester of post high school algebra with a passing grade or; the electrical training ALLIANCE online Tech Math course

  • Able to work legally in the United States and provide a valid Social Security Number

  • Be a minimum of 18 years of age at the time of registration (may apply at 17)

  • Possess a valid driver’s license



Direct Entry / Direct Interview:



Applicants may qualify for either Direct Entry or Direct Interview if they meet any of the following qualifications:



Military Experience. Applicants who have completed at least three years of active-duty service, with an honorable discharge within 5 years of date of application.



  • [Electrical] Industry Experience. Applicants who can verify that they have worked a minimum of 2,000 hours specifically in the electrical construction trade.· Must be physically and mentally able to learn to safely perform essential functions of the job. 


· Must be able to get to and from work at job sites anywhere within the geographical area that this apprenticeship program covers.  


· Must be able and willing to attend all related classroom training as required to complete their apprenticeship.  


· Must be able to climb and work from ladders, scaffolds, poles and towers of various heights.  


· Must be able to crawl and work in confined spaces such as attics, manholes, trenches, and crawlspaces.  


· Must be able to regularly lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds. On occasion, lift objects weighing above 50 pounds.  


· Must be able to work in extreme hot and cold temperature conditions.  


· Must be able to visually distinguish between colors. 


· Must be able to operate two-handed power equipment.  


· Must be able to read, hear and understand instructions and warnings in English.  


· Applicants selected for apprenticeship must have personal access to a PC or laptop and reliable internet access is needed to complete homework assignments. (no exceptions)  


· Must be able to pass a drug screen, medical evaluation and job task assessment upon being selected into the apprenticeship program. Must be at least 18 years of age prior to program start date.
